New York Civil Rights Lawyer Eric Sanders, Esq., of The Sanders Firm, P.C., alleges in a federal complaint that Police Officer Jennifer N. Lavin, is being subjected to a hostile work environment due to race and gender animus
New York, August 21, 2017 – Lavin, is an African-American female employed as a police officer with The Incorporated Village of Muttontown. Prior to being appointed to the position of Police Officer, Police Department Village of Muttontown, she was employed with the Police Department City of New York (NYPD).
According to the lawsuit, since May 24, 2011, The Incorporated Village of Muttontown; Julianne Wesley Beckerman; Mary Marks; Julie Albernas; Claire Barron; Salvatore Benisatto; Steven Fine; Carl Juul Nielson; Fahim Roufail; Gregory Detwiller; Phil T. Pulaski and William J.McHale failed to provide adequate equipment, facilities, training and policies to protect its employees’ rights particularly persons of color and females. Lavin further alleges, The Incorporated Village of Muttontown failed to provide her with a protective ballistic vest, adequate separate bathroom facilities, adequate separate locker room facilities, a reasonable accommodation to receive IVF treatments, a reasonable accommodation to obtain ‘light duty’ assignments, adequate private location to express milk and the ability to receive equal treatment in the use of GML 207-c and similar employee compensation.
“Apparently, The Incorporated Village of Muttontown and its agents view Officer Lavin as a ‘mere inconvenience.’ Over the course of six (6) years, Officer Lavin suffered in silence, navigating the daily disrespect from her colleagues and the management due to her race and gender. Her numerous complaints fell upon deaf ears. Today, Officer Lavin on behalf of herself and others similarly situated, decided to fight these ‘bullies’ be treated as an equal partner in law enforcement. Since these parties cannot do the right thing, we are going to use the Courts to ‘force’ it upon them,” says Eric Sanders.
Eric Sanders, Esq., of The Sanders Firm, P.C., filed the federal complaint in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, et al., 17 cv 4928, on August 21, 2017.
