However, it is not until recently that the nation and its states have devised laws specifically focused on such crimes against the person.

It is interesting to note that laws regarding hate crimes and terrorism are new. These new laws reflect less how drastically our country has changed in terms of what crimes are being committed because both types of crimes have been with us since our country was created, but they do reflect our commitment to making sure they are dealt with in an appropriate manner. It is true that it seems as if hate crimes have become more prevalent recently and it is true that terrorism took on a completely new face with 9/11, but it is also true that prior to these events both were a part of this nation’s history.
