The Sanders Firm, P.C.: SDP Miscellaneous Situations
In the section of our website focusing on substantive due process (SDP), The Sanders Firm, P.C. has focused on some of the more common situations related to this violation of your civil rights. The Fifth Amendment and the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution protect SDP, but the fact is there are many other types of situations where such rights are compromised. On this page we will consider some of those and on the next two subpages we will look specifically at sexual assault and treatment of mental patients.
Other Rights
In addition to the above, other SDP areas include the right to travel within the United States, end of life issues, voting rights, and education. Of course, cases dealing with SDP are rarely simple. There are times when our right to travel is controlled, or our right to an education is interpreted different ways by different courts. Voting rights in national and local elections in regards to college students on campuses have changed over the years, as in certain states this constituency finds it much easier to cast their vote on election day in the town in which their college is located. With advances in healthcare and our ability to keep people alive longer, end of life issues have become an important aspect of SDP; our rights to make free choices when our life is near the end or when our qualities of life that have greatly diminished are part of this debate.
