Retired NYPD Deputy Inspector Sues News Corporation Over ‘Thug Cop’ Stories

Retired NYPD Deputy Inspector Corey Pegues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK, April 11, 2015 – New York Civil Rights Attorney Eric Sanders, Esq., of The Sanders Firm, P.C., representing Retired NYPD Deputy Inspector Corey Pegues announces the filing of a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of New York, County of Nassau, News Corporation and related employees alleging race discrimination, violations of his First Amendment Rights to Freedom of Speech and other associated legal claims.

In Pegues’s lawsuit, he accuses the News Corporation through its wholly owned New York Post of “intentionally” and “maliciously” publishing “false and misleading” articles about him in support of its “unabashed” support for conservative political views including law enforcement where African-Americans, Hispanics and other disenfranchised persons are openly racially and politically stereotyped for its commercial and political gain among Caucasian Males and conservatives their target demographic.

Further, Pegues claims, the News Corporation, in collusion with The County of Nassau, The City of New York, Thomas C. Krumpter, William J. Bratton and Joseph J. Reznick “intentionally” and “maliciously” spread “false” statements about him designed to destroy his personal and professional reputation in the law enforcement and communities of color as a “political favor” to New York City Patrolman’s Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch, New York City Captain’s Endowment Association President Roy T. Richter, their members, other members of the law enforcement community, and other stakeholders, consisting of primarily Caucasian Males who were publicly very critical of his police reform lobbying efforts.

“Clearly, these parties apparently forgot Mr. Pegues does have legal rights. Deputy Inspector Pegues intends to hold these parties legally responsible for their actions.” Eric Sanders says.

Retired Deputy Inspector Corey Pegues filed his federal lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York on April 8, 2014, Docket No.: 15 cv 1930.
